Senior Data Engineer (AWS, Python, SQL)

Netherlands, Noord-Holland, Amsterdam€70,000 per yearData

Job description

StuDocu was founded on the principle that equal access to study notes reduces inequality between students. Today, we make it easy for 25+ million students to share notes and answer study-related questions. The product was a rocket ship from day one, and has shown strong product-market fit on every continent, making us a key player in the exploding EdTech space. We just received a $50 million Series B investment so we’re in a rapid 100% YoY growth and scale mode, and we need serious talent to help us make it happen.

Our founders are engineers and everyone in the team uses our yottabytes of data to inform daily decision-making. We’ve just received a $50 million Series B investment so we’re in rapid growth mode, investing heavily in data to scale from descriptive/diagnostic to predictive/prescriptive analytics.

The whole team at StuDocu is arranged around 5 ‘Pillars’ which are cross-functional squads composed of Product, Tech, Design, Data, Marketing and Operations. We believe in data democratization, which requires a reliable and scalable data infrastructure, to deliver accurate insights to individuals and teams as fast as possible. You will work closely with our analytics engineers and the embedded pillar analysts. You will be responsible for our architecture, infrastructure, and pipelines and will ensure that data is exposed to everyone without breaking.

What you'll be doing:

  • Owning DataOps: helping the data-team set up the AWS data infrastructure, creating and maintaining the right permissions and policy groups, maintaining and optimizing the data pipelines, and shaping our growing data lake house.
  • Stakeholder management: support our analysts and business stakeholders with their data requirements, translating them into engineering. requirements, and executing on those; cooperate with our DevOps team to ensure integration between the data and dev platforms and infrastructure.
  • Analytics engineering: co-develop and co-execute the analytics engineering roadmap, and build dedicated data models for the end-users based on business logic.

Examples of projects you’ll work on

  • Design/architect a data infrastructure in a dedicated AWS account.
  • Design, implement, monitor and improve end-to-end data pipelines between our internal and external applications and our analytics and data-science tools.
  • Implement streaming solutions for our document uploading pipeline.

Why you'll love it here

  1. You will be working for a global audience, creating an impact on the education of 17 million students across the globe.
  2. You will be given complex data-driven business cases to work on. There will be a lot of data to work with and A/B tests to run at that great scale.
  3. You will be part of a small team and a business which is growing at a rate of 100% but still keeps the start-up culture.
  4. Learn from 35 different nationalities and more than 100 employees. Bringing your own ideas to the table is more than welcome.
  5. An awesome office in the centre of Amsterdam with a huge garden, right next to the canals.
  6. A free healthy lunch with our own chef and unhealthy snacks every day when in the office.
  7. 24 holidays based on 40 hours per week. We also provide a public transport card and contribute to your pension scheme.
  8. Money. Depending on your skills and experience, we expect that you earn a yearly salary up to 70K euro plus additional stock.

Job requirements

To be successful in this role, this is the kind of profile we have in mind:
  1. Solid experience as a  Data / Analytics Engineer.
  2. Experience with AWS, SQL programming, data(base) structures, Modern Data Stack architecture, Airflow or dbt.
  3. It would be great if you have experience with (Py)spark, streaming data (technologies such as Kafka or Spark), and/or data governance (tools).
  4. You have acquired the majority of your experience in startups and/or scaleups. There, you developed an MVP attitude, and understood that adding 80% of value fast is preferred over adding 99% of value much later.
